Thanks to the Hutt Mana Charitable Trust for a grant which has allowed us to purchase 400lt of engine lubricating oil for De505.

We just received word of a very generous grant from The Lion Foundation towards the purchase of materials towards the return to service of PWD512 our C class saddle tank loco. While no definite timeline has been set as to when it will return to service, once efforts on the new display shed and the legacy issues with the storage shed are concluded then we hope to concentrate on some locomotive work for a nice change of scenery.

In January 2015 SSR embarked on a major project to construct a 650m2 display shed to enable some of our rolling stock to be displayed in a purpose built facility. Earthworks commenced in January and the foundations were laid in Febuary and over the winter months the site was tidied and the earthworks for the track approaches were completed. The shed construction got underway in October with completion of the building shell scheduled for November with the first items of rolling stock being moved in shortly after.

Commencing in June, Silver Stream Railway will be beginning a new winter time table. From the 7th of June until Labour weekend the railway will be open on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of every month from 11am till 4pm.

The 4 months that have past since the last report have been very busy, with 2 major events along with several other smaller events  and the preparation that goes into  making sure these days were a success. Our small team continues to be able to prove that our railway can still be successful, over 45 years after the idea was first mooted. The takings from these events totalled well into the 5 figure range, meaning we can continue to develop and maintain our assets for future generations to enjoy.

The past few months has seen a huge amount of outdoor activity due to the almost uninterrupted  fine weather that the region has enjoyed. The downside of this is it has left the ground very dry and the whole region was under a fire ban for a month. This precluded the use of our steam locomotive fleet for the duration but gave our 2 De locos an opertunity for an airing. We are fortunite to be able to call on a vast stable of motive power to suit almost any requirement. This is due to the dedication of members who has nursed these locomotive back to health.

L4246 and PWD531

Another successful few months have passed since the last update and as per normal they have been busy ones. Since the last update we have added another steam locomotive to our operational stable, bringing the total to 4. It has been an enormous effort to get back to that number after the days when it was touch and go whether one would be available for service at any one time.
